<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the dimension of the whole steering device by fitting a rack bar which is installed by shifting the phase by a prescribed angle between two rack teeth on which the respective pinions for front and rear wheels mesh, in the cylinder member of a front wheel steering device, and by installing a piston integrally with said rack bar. CONSTITUTION:A rack bar 16 is accommodated in shiftable manners in the axial direction into a cylinder member 14 of a front wheel steering mechanism, and the first rack teeth 18 is formed at a part of the outer peripheral surface close to one edge part of the rack bar 16, and the second rack teeth 20 having the phase different by 90 deg. or so in the circumferential direction to that of the above-described rack teeth 18 is formed in the intermediate part in the axial direction. Further, a piston member 22 fitted in a cylinder chamber 28 is fixedly installed in the vicinity of the rack teeth 20, and the cylinder chamber 28 is held liquidtightly by the sealing members 30 and 32 interposed between the rack bar 16 and the cylinder member 14. A pinion 38 on a steering shaft 36 is meshed with the first rack teeth 18, and a pinion 42 on a rod member 40 connected with a rear wheel steering device is meshed with the second rack teeth 20.</p> |
