The ammunition is in the form of a round 10 which has a rear propellant charge 22 and a plurality of forward, positionally fixed projectiles 20 disposed laterally of and about the longitudinal axis of the round. The round may have a case 12 of a plastics material, the forward wall 14 thereof having bores 24 in which are seeled projectile carrying obturating sleeves 26. The rounds may be polygonal and, as disclosed, are equilateral curvilinear triangles in crosssection (Figs 4, 6, 8, not shown). The gun for firing the above ammunition comprises a breech mechanism 31 which is provided with a firing chamber 40 for holding a round in the firing position and a barrel assembly having a plurality of generally parallel bores which, when the chamber is loaded, are each aligned with one of the plurality of projectiles. The gun as shown is of the " open-chamber " type and the barrel assembly is fixed to the breech frame 32 although it may be attached to and be rotatable with the cylindrical open chamber carrier 38. The carrier which has at least one chamber 40 is rotated through a shaft 44. The barrel assembly comprises a plurality of barrels 52 mounted in a sleeve 58, the relative positions of the muzzle ends of the barrels being adjustable by an adjusting means 54 having a collar and cooperating tapered cams (62, Fig. 2, not shown).
