Telephone communication system comprising a central unit 1 connected by at least one subscriber line 2 to a telephone exchange 3 and to the same number of individual handsets 5, the central unit and the handsets being connected by electrical wires 4 allowing the exchanging of metering information and phone data. The central unit 1 is fitted with means for transmitting to a specified handset 5 metering signals which it receives from the telephone exchange 3 in step with the communication. Each individual handset is fitted with means of reception for a programmable read-only memory support 6 of the "memory card" type, and the said individual handset is configured in order to deduct from the said programmable read-only memory metering units corresponding to the metering signals transmitted by the central unit. <IMAGE>
