PURPOSE:To eliminate the influence of an error caused by the change with the lapse of time, etc., and to execute a musical performance conforming to a sound pitch designated by a performer by discriminating a fret position, based on a characteristic obtained by measuring the propagation characteristic of a string before starting the musical performance. CONSTITUTION:At the time of an initialization mode which precedes a musical performance mode, a measuring means 13 measures a propagation characteristic of a string, for instance, the propagation time of an ultrasonic wave, etc., related to frets (3, 5, 7) which become a reference, and an information forming means 15 forms information for showing a measured propagation characteristic. Subsequently, said mode is shifted to the musical performance mode, and a performer executes a musical performance, while designating a sound pitch by pressing a string 1 against the fret. A fret position discriminating means 9 gives an ultrasonic wave to the string 1, measures its propagation time, corrects suitably this propagation time, while referring to the information for showing the formed propagation characteristic and discriminates the fret against which the string is pressed. In such a way, when the fret is discriminated, a musical sound generating means 11 generates the musical sound of a sound pitch corresponding to its fret, therefore, the musical performance is executed in accordance with the sound pitch designated by the performer. |
