The invention relates to an electromechanically operating electronically controlled Braille printing machine which operates silently and which has a number of characters higher 256 than that of the 64 characters of the Braille alphabet, the purpose of this being to make it possible to code the entire ASCII code in order to make the machine a terminal of the ASR 33 type. It consists of, among other things, an embossing head which comprises, on the one hand, a sprocket support 5 movable between two positions 6', 6'', called respectively the embossing and the stand-by position, the distance separating the said two positions being slightly greater than the length of the sprockets, the said sprocket support being in association with a drive means 7 which can displace it forcibly in the direction of the anvil, and with a return means for displacing it in the opposite direction, and, on the other hand, means 18 to 26 for putting the sprockets into place in one of the combinations of the set of the Braille alphabet, the putting into place taking place when the feet support is in the stand-by position. The invention is used on any machine or device for printing by embossing which employs the techniques of the data-processing of the Braille script. <IMAGE>
