PURPOSE:To improve response for transmission to wheels the torque frictional coefficient of which is higher as well as to increase the capacity of torque by providing an electromagnet allowing the line of magnetic force of it to pass through in the direction intersecting the direction to which viscous fluid is sheared. CONSTITUTION:An electro-magnet 17 is provided, which allows the line of magnetic force of it to pass through in the direction intersecting the direction to which viscous fluid 31 is sheared. This constitution enables the shear resistance of viscous fluid 31 to be instantly increased. Hence, when a viscous coupling 6 of this type is applied to a power transmission system of an automobile, the shear resistance of viscous fluid 31 can be instantly increased so that intensive torque can be quickly transmitted to wheels the frictional coefficient of which is higher. Namely, both response for transmission to wheels the torque frictional coefficient of which in higher and the capacity of torque to be transmitted can be improved. As a result, a device set forth herein above enables the automobile to quickly get rid of a slipping condition. |
