Process for producing a film from thermoplastic material with the aid of a slot die, which has at least one adjustable die lip, defining the outlet gap, a counter lip and, distributed over the length of the adjustable die lip, a row of piezoelectric translators, which operate as final control elements on sections of the die lip. The piezoelectric translators are controlled by an open-loop or closed-loop control device to a predetermined thickness of the die gap and consequently to a predetermined film thickness. The piezoelectric translators are controlled, at least in groups, to a differing thickness of the die gap.
