PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of a heat generating element and reduce a calorific value from a thermal head by adjusting a head holding pressure and the calorific value in accordance with the smoothness of paper. CONSTITUTION:A signal from a density adjustment switch 43 selected in accordance with the smoothness of paper is entered into a control part 37, reads preset data which meets the pulse width time of a strobe signal to be output from ROM to a heat generating element of a thermal head 1, and sets the preset data which is read to a counter of a timer 40. In addition, data which conforms with the rotating position of a head holding motor 22 on a head pressing adjustment part is read from ROM to rotate the head holding motor 22 to a specified position. If printing data of a single line is transmitted to a latching circuit of the thermal head 1 with a printing start command received, the heat generating element begins generating heat and the counter starts counting with a counting start value. Then the counter outputs a resetting signal after full counting and the heat generating element ends heat generation. |
