CODING SYSTEM FOR PICTURE SIGNAL

PURPOSE:To attain local display of a coded picture and processing without complicated procedure or long processing by dividing a picture into plural partial pictures, coding and storing them. CONSTITUTION:A picture signal storage section 1 converts a picture signal by one pattern outputted from a picture input device such as a television camera into a digital quantity and stores it as a picture signal given from a matrix picture element. An optional shape area setting section 2 reads a picture signal form the picture signal storage section 1 and sets an optional shaped area in the picture. When the setting of all optional shaped areas in the picture is finished, the stored said shape matrix is sent sequentially to a rectangular area setting section 3. A rectangular area coding data generated by a rectangular area coding section 5 is sent to a code storage section 6 together with rectangular area location information. Thus, the partial display or processing of the coded picture element is applied with less processing time without complicated processing.
