PURPOSE:To enable stable high-quality recording to be achieved even on a transfer recording material having great variations in surface characteristics, by applying at least one of optical energy and thermal energy to a recording medium in accordance with an image signal to form an image, transferring the image onto an intermediate transfer medium, and transferring the image from the intermediate transfer medium to the transfer recording material. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium 1 is superposed on a thermal head 20, and irradiation with light is so conducted as to cover the entire area of a heat generating part of the head 20. The irradiation is conducted by sequentially using lights of wavelengths to which image forming elements are sensitive. For example, when the image forming elements has one of tones of yellow (Y), magenta (M) and cyan (C), lights of wavelengths lambda1, lambda2, lambda3 are sequentially used for irradiation. The recording medium 1 provided with a recorded image and an intermediate transfer medium 3 are brought into contact with each other, and heat and pressure are applied to them from the side of the medium 1 or the medium 3, thereby transferring the recorded image onto the medium 3. Next, the intermediate transfer medium 3 and a recording material 4 are brought into contact with each other, and heat and pressure are applied to them from the side of the medium 3 or the material 4, thereby transferring the recorded image onto the recording material 4. |
