Housing for transformer substations - has collapsible wall of thermoplastic material between switchgear section and transformer

An enclosure for transformer substations for use in urban areas, where the sudden release of hot gases due to a switchgear fault could cause injury. A barrier (6) between the switchgear section (2) and that containing the transformer (3) is made of thermoplastic material, and provided with breaking and bending lines. These are arranged such that if an explosion occurs the barrier sections (9a, 10a, 10b) bend and break towards the transformer (4) and direct the hot gases onto the latter. By passing over the mass of the transformer before escaping out of the station vents, the gases are sufficiently cooled so that no injury to persons outside results.
