PURPOSE:To exactly decide the melting conditions of scrap by measuring the pressure in bottom blowing nozzles at all times and finding the difference between the pressure at the time when the scrap is not melted and the pressure in the bottom blowing nozzles on progression of the melting of the scrap at the time of executing steel making and refining by using a large amt. of the scrap in a top and bottom blown converter. CONSTITUTION:Fuel 7 such as coke is charged from a bunker 3 into the converter 1 provided with an oxygen top blowing lance 4 and the bottom blowing nozzles for blowing of inert gases such as N2 and Ar. The inexpensive steel scrap 8 is then charged thereon. Gaseous oxygen is blown into the converter from the top blowing lance 4 and the gaseous N2 or Ar is blown therein from the bottom blowing nozzles to melt the scrap 8. The gaseous pressure Po in the bottom blowing nozzles prior to the scrap melting is measured in this case. The head H of a molten metal 9 increases gradually on progression of the melting of the scrap 8 and the pressure P in the bottom blowing nozzles increases accordingly. The melting state of the scrap 8 is easily and exactly decided by the height of the head H of the molten metal 9 by measuring the difference ALPHAP between the P and Po.
|
