PURPOSE:To obtain the title member which is excellent in strength, wear resistance, chipping resistance and utilizable for high-speed cutting of cast iron and cutting of high hard steel by mixing each powder of double carbide of Ti and Hf, one or more kinds of oxides of Mg, Y, Zr and Al2O3 at a specified ratio, molding and sintering the mixture. CONSTITUTION:Double carbide powder of Ti and Hf consisting of Ti/Hf weight ratio regulated to prescribed ratio, one or more kinds of oxide powder of Mg, Y, Zr and Al2O3 powder are pulverized and mixed at a specified ratio and this mixture is molded to form a green compact and thereafter this green compact is heated in vacuum and the sintered at about 1,770 deg.C in the Ar atmosphere not higher than e.g. 1atm. and furthermore subjected to hot hydrostatic pressing treatment at about 1,500atm. at about 1,600 deg.C in the Ar atmosphere. Thereby the title member which has the substantially same composition as the blended composition and consists of 20-49.5wt.% double carbide of Ti and Hf wherein Ti/Hf weight ratio is regulated to 20/80-95/5, 0.5-8wt.% one or more kinds of oxides of Mg, Y, Zr and the balance 50-79wt.% Al2O3 and inevitable impurities is obtained. |
