PURPOSE:To increase contrast and sensitivity by using silver halide particles each specified in at least one of the (111) faces as >=50% of all particles. CONSTITUTION:This silver halide emulsion contains silver halide particles obtd. by depositing practically one silver halide quest crystal in at least one of the (111) faces of each of silver halide host crystals as >=50% of all the particles in the emulsion. The host crystals are normal crystals each having (111) faces and contain silver iodide as solid soln. The quest crystal is made of silver chloride or contains silver chloride as solid soln. The host crystals may be octahedral or tetradecahedral crystals each having (111) faces but tetradecahedral regular crystals each having (111) faces by >=50% of the total surface area, especially octahedral crystals are preferably used. The hot crystals are preferably particles having high single dispersibility and a particle size distribution in which the ratio of the standard deviation to the average particle size is <=0.3, especially <=0.1. Contrast and sensitivity can be increased. |
