PURPOSE: To eliminate the need to draw an optical fiber until a lens at one end of the optical fiber abuts a stopper and prevent the lens from being broken by hermetically encircling the lens and maintaining the lens on an axis irrelevantly to the axial movement of the lens along the front part of a hole. CONSTITUTION: The hole 14 which extends along the axis 16 of a contact 12 is formed having the front part 40 which hermetically closes the lens at the end of the optical fiber 18, and the lens 28 is positioned laterally on the axis 16. Then when the lens engagement part 46 of a positioning tool 44 engages the lens 28 in the contact 12, the lens 28 is put forward away from an intersection surface 36 and positioned and the distance of the position where the front surface 28t of the lens 28 moves back away from the front end 30 of the contact 12 and is positioned is precisely set. Consequently, the optical fiber 18 is prevented from having its root part 28r broken. |
