A web of glass sheeting is conveyed from a take-off spool in a sputtering chamber and is continuously deposited with a layer of a metal, semi-conductor, metal alloy, metal oxide or a mixture of metallic materials. - The sputter-deposited sheeting is wound on a take-up spool while interposing a non-abrasive protective web between the surface of the sheeting.
