Replicon derived from Streptomyces natalensis - used to provide plasmids having wide host specificity, small size and a high copy number

A replicon derived from pGR1 is claimed. Pref. the replicon is derived from the 3.5 kb Bgl II fragment of pGR1. Also claimed is a DNA vector comprising the replicon. The vector pref. further comprises at least one resistance marker gene, e.g. genes encoding ampicillin, thiostrepton and/or neomycin. Also claimed are plasmids pGR1, pGR20, pGR21, pGR24, pGR30, pGR31 and pGR7. Also claimed are host cells, e.g. Streptomyces or E. coli contg. the plasmids or vectors.
