The process, which produces amino-acid concentrates of high purity from animal protein by-prods. by (a) digesting with an inorganic acid, e.g., hydrochloric, sulphuric or phosphoric acid, until total dissolution occurs; (b) neutralising to above pH 3 with a base, e.g., sodium or calcium carbonate or calcium oxide and filtering; (c) purifying the filtrate with active carbon and/or exchange resins; and (d) vacuum concn., sterilisation and opt. spray drying. They are used in animal feeds, veterinary, human foodstuffs, pharmacy, etc.
