PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of a magnetic head by sliding contact with a magnetic recording medium and to provide improved durability and prolonged life by providing a wear resistant protective film on the sliding surface of the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The protective film 1 constituted of the wear resistant thin film consisting of at least one kind of the element selected from boron B, the carbide of B, the nitride of B, silicon S, the carbide of Si, the nitride of Si and carbon C or the compd. thereof is provided on the sliding surface of the magnetic head with the magnetic recording medium. Namely, such thin wear resistant protective film 1 is formed over the entire surface of the sliding surface of the magnetic head, by which the wear and damage of the easily wear high magnetic permeability amorphous alloy layer or the like constituting the magnetic layer of the magnetic head are obviated in spite of sliding contact with the magnetic recording medium. The durability of the magnetic head is thereby improved and the life thereof is prolonged. |
