PURPOSE:To obtain the title ceramic having finely separated grain boundary and having high strength and high hardness by admixing a powdery compounding agent to a beta-sialon powder under a specified condition, molding the mixture, and then sintering. CONSTITUTION:3-40pts.wt. of at least one kind of powder selected from a group of each compounding agent powder consisting of SiC, TiC, TiN, TiB2, B4C, Al4C3, Cr2N, Cr3C2, ZrN, and ZrC, having <=5mu mean particle size, is admixed with 100pts.wt. beta-sialon powder having <=2mu mean particle size prepd. by pulverizing beta-sialon having a compsn. expressed by Si6-zAlzOzN8-z (z is 0.1-3.0), and, if necessary, 1-30pts.wt. sintering aid selected from Y2O3 and rare earth metal oxides having <=5mu mean particle size, basing on 100pts.wt. total weight of the beta-sialon plus a compounding agent, and the mixture is molded. The molded product is then sintered at 1,600-1,900 deg.C for a specified time in N2 atmosphere. |
