In order to enable a roll to be changed "on the fly", the winder is equipped with an automatic cutting and fixing device 15 intended for cutting the sheet material when the maximum diameter of the roll is reached, and in affixing the leader (leading end) of the sheet material 7 delivered onto a new winding cylinder 6'. This cutting and fixing device 15 is provided with a cutting head 18 consisting of a cutting blade located at the front, in the direction in which the sheet material 7 passes, intended to cut the sheet material 7, and with an inductor electrode for electrostatically charging the continuously-delivered sheet material, so as to fix, without adhesive, its leader (leading end) to the surface of the new winding cylinder.
