In washing and spinning machines to be loaded on the casing side, the washing drum is closed by means of a closure flap. Joints and the closing mechanism for opening and closing the closure flap generate considerable unbalance forces during the running of the washing drum, particularly during the spinning cycle. These are to be avoided. The driving rib or driving ribs located opposite the closure flap (4) is or are provided with additional masses (10 and 8) for the purpose of weight compensation. The running of the washing and spinning drum is improved substantially as a result of the invention, and the running of the washing drum becomes more uniform. It also ensures that, when the machine is switched off, the filling cap (4) can be rotated more easily relative to the loading orifice. <IMAGE>
