Polymeric conditioning agents for the pretreatment of nonmetallic surfaces for a chemical metallization

The use of polyalkyleneimines, having 2 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkylene groups, and/or of their quaternary salts, which polyalkyleneimines are soluble in the aqueous bath in which they are employed and whose nitrogen atoms are quaternized to an extent of up to 80 % with C1 to C8-alkyl groups, as conditioning agents for the pretreatment of nonmetallic surfaces before they are primed (given a nucleating treatment) for a subsequent chemical metallization. This is a cost-effective method of obtaining uniform and well-adhering metal coatings.
