Forked lever for actuating starter motor - is fitted to road vehicle engine and has shoes with convex surfaces fitted to fork arms

The pinion on the shaft of the starter motor for a vehicle engine is moved axially in order to engage the teeth of the starter ring by means of a forked lever (1). The forked lever (1) has a slot (3) (4) in each arm (1a) (1b). These slots receive shoes (5) of H cross-section with convex outer surfaces (10). When the arms (1a) (1b) of the fork fit in the groove in the starter motor shaft the convex surfaces abut against the shoulders of the groove with a slight rolling action as the forked lever is actuated.
