PURPOSE:To control separation of a substrate and the like easily, in a printer associated with self diagnostic function, by providing an indicator for indicating an erroneous substrate during diagnostic operation, an operation mode indicating section for commanding limitless time execution of self-diagnosis and a drive control means therefor. CONSTITUTION:When a printer is started up, a control section 1 performs self- diagnosis of its own hardware and reads in the content of an operation mode commanding section 2 if the hardware is normal. If the content represents a normal mode, general diagnosis is performed and respective phases of diagnosis are shown on a display 3. If the operation mode commanding section 2 commends limitless times of diagnosis, diagnosis is executed repeatedly by limitless times unitll an error occurs. It is difficult, in the field, to separate a defective substrate upon occurrence of intermittent malfunction of hardware so as to cope with the trouble quickly. In this case, self-diagnosis is executed repeatedly and emergency check of a logic power source is made, thus enabling separation of defective substrate in the field. |
