To prepare for the bonding to plastic, a layer is applied to a metal surface by sandblasting with a material consisting of 0.1 to 30 % by weight of optionally silanised, amorphous silicon-containing material having a grain size of < 1 mu m, the remainder being a sandblasting medium having a mean grain size of > 1 mu m, and this layer is subsequently silanised if desired.
