In ultrasonic imaging devices which operate in accordance with the pulse/echo method, time-delayed transmitted signals which result in artefacts in the ultrasonic image are generated by reflection of the echo signals at the ultrasonic transducer (2). According to the invention, the measured echo signal is used to derive a simulated artefact signal by calculating a convolution integral. Said signal is used to determine a corrected echo signal in which artefact components are largely suppressed. This corrected echo signal then serves as the basis for generating an ultrasonic image.
