Apparatus for the deposition of an orientation layer on the substrate (2) of a liquid crystal cell for inducing a quasi-homeotropic orientation of the liquid crystal molecules, characterized in that it comprises a planar linear support (14) able to receive a group of substrates (2) aligned in accordance with an alignment axis and a cathodic sputtering source (10) positioned above said support and centred on said alignment axis, said substrates and said source performing a relative translation movement along said alignment axis during the deposition of the orientation layer, said movement leading to a continuous variation in the incidence angle of the particles deposited at each point of a substrate in a range containing the normal incidence. |
