A machine for manufacturing candles or similar from granulated candle wax has a piston and cylinder arrangement (18), the piston of which compresses the granules introduced through the inlet in the cylinder wall and forces them through an injection orifice (31). In order to avoid empty spaces inside the piston and cylinder arrangement (18) in which the granulated wax would be insufficiently compressed, said arrangement is disposed vertically and upright; the centre line of the injection port (31) is horizontal.
