Hollow GRP mouldings are made by using a flexible inflatable core to support the resin impregnated fabric or mat during lay-up and curing. Used for mfr. of storage tanks etc. to allow the body, ends and opt. supports to be laid up as an integral moulding instead of requiring assembly from prefabricated sub-components. The internal support is subsequently easily removed. The core is made of an impermeable sheet or fabric and pressurised to 1-2kg/cm2 by gas or liquid injection. After the GRP structure is cured, the support may be depressured and collapsed for removal intact through a relatively small opening, e.g. a manhole opening in a rail tank car body.
|
