The hand held spray dispenser has an automatic pumping action to provide rapid and continuous distribution of the contents. The liquid for spraying is in a container (4) equipped with a pump valve (5). This container fits into a holder (2), the valve projecting through the top (6) and held immobile by a collar (7). The base (16) of the spray container contacts the flat face (12) of a two-part disc ram assembly, the mating faces (13) having sinusoidal or similar profiles. The lower disc (11) is rotated (10) by an electric motor through a speed reducer, the rotary motion being transformed into reciprocating motion on the container.
