The arms 2 of a tripod element bear against rolling tracks 9 of a bowl element 10 through roller segments 6 which are in swivelling contact with the arms 2 and in rolling contact with the rolling tracks 9. Each roller segment carries a boss 102 movable in a recess 203, 204 of a branch 212 of a slidable clip 113. In normal service, the roller segment rolls in the associated track 9. In the event of an extreme extension or compression of the joint, the clip is driven by the boss 102 until it abuts by a shoulder 127 against a step on the bowl element or against the inner end of the bowl element 10. The clip then axially blocks the boss 102 and, as the case may be, constrains the roller segments 6 to pivot for clearing the travel of the arm 2 toward the end T2 or T3 of its travel.
