A water-erodible film-forming polymer contains ester groups hydrolysable in sea water to form free acid or salt groups bound to the polymer. The hydrolysable ester groups are selected from phosphate, phosphonate and phosphinate groups and thio- and amido- derivatives thereof. The polymer is used in coatings which inhibit the adhesion of marine organisms. A typical polymer contains groups derived from methacryloxyethyl diphenyl phosphate. |
