The invention relates to the formation of a uniform layer on a travelling substrate by spraying with a liquid composition. The process consists in spraying the liquid composition onto the travelling substrate by means of a sprayer adapted to move transversely to the substrate at a relative speed in relation to the substrate which has a nil axial component. Using this process, a succession of traces which are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the direction of travel of the substrate is obtained on the substrate. <IMAGE>
