A theft prevention device suitable for use in an automobile is provided having a theft prevention switch adapted for use in an engine starter circuit 34 of the automobile. The theft prevention switch is openable when a door 2, 16, 18, 20, Fig 2, of the automobile is locked according to a predetermined process using a laser key, a key plate, or keyless locking and closable when the door 2, 16, 18, 20 is unlocked with the proper means. The theft prevention device also has a self-holding relay 55 energizable when said door 2, 16, 18, 20 is locked according to the predetermined process, said self-holding relay 55 having a relay contact 94 used as the theft prevention switch. A method of preventing a theft from an automobile is also provided. An alarm 71 may be activated if the driver leaves the ignition key in place or omits to lock a door. Horn 37 may be sounded if an attempt to break into the vehicle is made. <IMAGE> |
