PURPOSE:To simplify the designing of a tape running system and to reduce tape-running load by forming on a magnetic tape recording tracks parallel with the longitudinal direction of the tape successively in the vertical direction and tracing the recording tracks at the time of reproducing also. CONSTITUTION:When magnetic head 2a and 2b among those mounted on a rotary cylinder 1 is brought into contact with the magnetic tape 3, they are fixed in the direction of rotation of the cylinder 1, and signals are recorded in parallel with the longitudinal direction of the tape 3. On the other hand, heads 2c and 2d when not being brought into contact with the tape, move to a position shifted by one-track-length share from the heads 2a, 2b. The cylinder 1 rotates, and the heads 2c, 2d trace and record in positions respectively shifted by one-track-length share from the tracks on which the heads 2a, 2b recorded. Further, if the tape 3 runs for one-track-length share, the heads 2a, 2b returns to their initial heights and record therein, and the same operation as the above is continued to record on the entire part of the tape 3. |
