PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the title compounds useful as a raw material for various high polymer compounds and organic chemicals, by reacting an unsaturated carboxylic acid as a main raw material with an alcohol or water and carbon monoxide in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An unsaturated carboxylic acid (e.g., acrylic acid or maleic acid) which is a raw material is reacted with an alcohol or water and carbon monoxide using a catalyst consisting of an organic phosphorus compound containing trivalent phosphorus atom in the molecule and a cobalt-containing substance as a catalyst at 50-250 deg.C, preferably 90-170 deg.C to afford the aimed compounds. For example, triphenylphosphine, etc., are cited as the organic phosphorus compound and dicobalt octacarbonyl, etc., are cited as the cobalt- containing substance used as the catalyst. The ratio of the former phosphorus compound to the latter cobalt compound is within the range of 0.1-50, preferably 0.5-10atomic ratio (P/Co). |
