Bundles of multicore fibre optic cables run through walls, ceilings or floors from light generating equipment, e.g. mercury vapour lamps, to the areas where the messages or other signals are to be displayed. Cables are brought out from the bundles and the ends of the individual fibres are spread out along sections of the required characters, lines etc. Above the ends of the fibres are pieces of material which give a display which contrasts with the normal surface of the wall, floor or ceiling. Such material may be fluorescent or photoluminescent. |
