<p>The display system has a simple U-shaped channel extrusion (1), with a high back wall (2) and a low front wall (6). The back wall is pierced by a regular matrix of identical sized holes (5). The message to be displayed is built up as characters or symbols by inserting lines of mushroom-headed pins (3) into selected holes in the matrix. The novel feature of ther present display is that the heads of the pins are coated with a fluorescent material, which can be activated by a low power ultra-violet lamp (8) mounted with a reflector (9) in the flat base of the extrusion. The UV light is invisible to the eye and therefore only the heads of the pins will be visible in low ambient lighting conditions.</p> |
