The process is for the mfg. of a smooth, cold-drawn, multifilament yarn made of partially oriented polyester yarn (polyester POY). In the first process step, the polyester POY is cold-drawn with a drawing ratio of at least 1.6. In the second step, it is subjected to a hot relaxation process with a 10-20% lead. The relaxation can take place at 70-140 deg. C in a wet medium or at 140-250 deg. C in a dry medium. - A polyester POY dtex 100 f produced at a spinning speed of 3,100 m/min is subjected to a cold drawing process on a two-stage draw-twister at room temp. without a draw pin in a 1:1.8 ratio. It is subsequently led with a 10% lead over a 48 cm plate heater with a heater temp. of 225 deg. C. An entangling process at 25 knots/m follows directly and the yarn is wound at 420 m/min.
