The protective and reinforcing strip is made by extruding a strp of PVC or rubber, in one or more colours, which is pressed and stretched by rollers with opt. engraving of one side by roller. It is solidified in cooling bath and collected on a reel or cut into strips. When applied to cover the thickness of the sole and extend up the vamp it consolidates this with the insole. Application is by smoothing down the edges, preparing the surfaces and sticking the strip under pressure, with a suitable adhesive to obtain an intimate union, opt. with heating. The toe and heel can be covered with protective strips in a similar manner. (0/7)
