The maximum speed of 20mm per second and a maximum displacement of 0.5mm of a lens will produce a stable image of an object in a portable camera. A carriage is free to travel along a guidance system but is restrained by a spring on one side. The other side has an arm bearing against a cam mounted on the shaft of an electric motor. An optical element is mounted on the carriage. A circuit calculates the speed of a the apparatus and, by selection of an appropriate filter depending on the film characteristics, produces an output which is proportional to the angular speed of the apparatus and which corresponds to the linear speed required of the optical element. This output is fed to the motor which turns the cam. ADVANTAGE - Determines the exact speed of the object.
