The equipment consists of a transformer (1) supplied with mains voltage to the primary, giving a reduced voltage and elevated current from the secondary, and a pair of electrodes (4,5) connected to the secondary. When these are connected by the hypodermic needle (12), a high intensity current flows between them, destroying the needle.
