A device for measuring the liquid level in containers, especially the oil level in internal combustion engines of motor vehicles, has a temperature-dependent resistance element which is arranged in a container in such a way that it spans the range of the possible level fluctuations, and a comparator which measures the voltage drop across the resistive element. In order to reduce the calibration cost and to obtain a continuous measurement of the liquid level which is done as reliably as possible, a second temperature-dependent resistance element provided, which is arranged in the liquid container in such a way, that it spans the range of the possible level variations and may be continuously loaded with current via a second resistor. Furthermore, the comparator compares the voltage drop across the second resistance element with the voltage drop across the first resistance element.
