A heat storage apparatus has, in an air duct (5) passing under an accumulator core (3), a pivotable flap (8) driven by a U-shaped bimetallic strip (15-17). The bimetallic strip (15-17) carries an electric heating resistor (21) on its lower leg (16). In order to be able to achieve a considerable travel for a small overall length, the bimetallic strip (15-17) is pivotably mounted in the region of its bend (17), the leg (16) which is not in driving connection with the flap (8) resting freely against a stop (11). <IMAGE>
