For producing a concrete block for floor or wall surfaces, a fresh mass of concrete with aggregates is formed, elevations and depressions being produced on a fair face of the block. Once the concrete block formed in this way has set, the elevations are surface-ground, the depressions remaining unchanged. The grinding operation is continued until the elevations have a smooth surface and the granular constituents of the aggregates form a significant proportion of the surface area, likewise in the smooth-ground state.
