For the determination of an imbalance correction, the imbalance with respect to at least one reference plane, preferably a bearing plane, is determined in a balancing machine. The determined imbalance is compared with a permissible residual imbalance value, and in the case of overshoot of the permissible residual imbalance value that correction is determined which requires at least a smallest possible total compensating mass and/or a smallest possible number of correction processes, in order to keep reliably within the tolerance values, defined by the permissible residual imbalances in the reference plane, with the smallest possible expenditure for a correction in the correction planes. <IMAGE>
