PURPOSE:To perform alignment through less operations, and to align cores with each other with high precision and to reduce connection loss, by setting the size of an aligning base for approximating the direction of displacement between a couple of optical fibers to be aligned with each other to the direction of external force applied to a cantilever type aligning base. CONSTITUTION:When the displacement of an optical fiber F is not in parallel to X and Y, X' and Y' coordinates are read and the core C1 of the optical fiber F is aligned with the core C2 of the optical fiber. At this time, the thickness of a suporting pole and that of a lateral beam are given correlation and the angle Q between displacement directions X' and Y' is increased as much as possible. In other words, the operation frequency of alignment is decreased by bringing the directions X' and Y' close to the directions X and Y. The eccentricity of the cores and deviation depending upon the external diameters of the optical fibers are specified, and the maximum amount of axis shifting is about 5mum; and the aligning operation is performed in this state to reduce the amount of axis shifting. When a final axis shift is 0.2mum, the connection loss is <0.01dB. |
