It is proposed to provide a small vacuum cleaner, preferably driven via built-in, chargeable batteries, with improved dust filtering while retaining a simple design and simple operability. To this end, it is proposed to insert a fine filter, e.g. a filter made of electrostatically charged synthetic fibres, in addition to the normal dust filter, in an easily exchangeable manner into the appliance housing. The fine filter can be arranged in a space of the appliance housing between the fan and the air outlet and accessible through a housing opening, preferably passing through the flow channels in the interior of the appliance housing at a distance from the air outlet. Alternatively, the fine filter can be constructed in the shape of a bag and arranged in the inside of a bag-shaped dust filter which is acted upon from outside. <IMAGE>
