PURPOSE:To purify safely CO2 industrially and profitably by bringing crude CO2 into contact with a specified catalyst to start the reaction and thereafter finishing the reaction with the catalyst deposited with the metals of group VIII in the periodic table. CONSTITUTION:Both crude CO2 contg. methane and hydrocarbon other than methane which are by-produced in a production process of ethylene oxide and O2 or the gas contg. O2 are brought into contact with a catalyst contg. MnO2 and CuOto start the reaction and the hydrocarbon other than methane is oxidized to CO2. Then after the gas is brought into contact with the catalyst deposited with the metals (e.g. Pt) of group VIII in the periodic table of finish the reaction, methane is separated by a normal method such as the distillation and liquefaction to obtain high-purity CO2. |
